County supports applying for firefighter training center grant
While discussion about The Fields and shifting a portion of Old State Highway 28 dominated the Bledsoe County Commission meeting Monday, April 18, other important county business was handled including supporting a grant application for a firefighting training center. (Information about road shift was in the April 21 issue of The Bledsonian-Banner.)
Application is being made for a $630,000 Community Development Block Grant for a fire training center. All nine of Bledsoe County’s volunteer fire departments could utilize the center instead of traveling for the training. The county’s 135 volunteer firemen are required to complete 36 hours of annual training in order to retain their NFPA and State Firefighting Certification.
