Road shift proposed to make way for airstrip

News of possibly closing a portion of State Route 28, south of Pikeville, to make way for a 4,500 foot air strip has many area residents concerned. The Fields at Fall Creek, a fly-in community, being built on 1,500 acres of the former Merri Acres property changed its initial plans of a 3,000-foot air strip to run adjacent to US Highway 127 to a 4,500 air strip to accommodate twin engine planes safely that will cross over a portion of State Route 28 that runs through the property, explained Craig Fuller, founder and CEO of FreightWaves and CEO of FLYING Media Group.

In order to extend the air strip, the developer has proposed shifting the roadway and connecting it to Pope Road so traffic flow can continue.
