Norman Oscar Blankenship
Norman Oscar Blankenship, 82, of Flintstone, Georgia went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.
He was born in Bledsoe County, Tennessee on June 23, 1938 to the late Jess and Hazel DeBord Blankenship and had lived in the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas for most of his life. He was of the Church of Christ faith and was a Navy Veteran. He retired from Sloan Paper Company in 1997 after more than 40 years of service as a Salesman and enjoyed fishing, gardening and bird watching with his wife by his side. He loved traveling, camping, riding motorcycles and spending time with his family & friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother that will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Winifred Blankenship.
Survivors include his loving wife of more than 61 years, Billie Ruth Hale Blankenship; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and (Doug) Gravitte and Debbie and (Alan) Tittle; brother and sister-in-law, William “Bill” and (Gail) Blankenship; sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana and (Harry) DeBord, Janice and (Denny) Foster and Nancy Shasteen; five grandchildren, Denise Meise, Jessica Cobb, Stephen Tutton, Travis Tittle and Mary Beth Pemberton; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel. The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday and prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. On Sunday, June 6, the family received friends from 1-3 p.m. at Pikeville Funeral Home. A graveside service followed at 3:30 p.m. in the Blankenship Cemetery, Pikeville.
