Robert “Bob” Byrd Davis

Robert “Bob” Byrd Davis, 77, of Flowery Branch, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

Bob was born September 26, 1943 to Charles and Mary Ruth Davis in Pikeville, Tennessee. He was a member of the Bledsoe County High School Class of 1961 where he played trombone in the band and center on the basketball team.

Following high school he attended Middle Tennessee State University. Bob then served in the United States Air Force stationed at Blytheville Air Force Base in Arkansas. After his military service he began his long career in telecommunications starting as a lineman and installer for South Central Bell in Chattanooga, Tennessee and ending as a highly skilled network specialist with AT&T in Atlanta, Georgia, retiring after 31 years of service.

Bob was an avid bicyclist who rode many miles daily. He participated in numerous Century Rides and multi-day bike tours in Florida and Georgia along with his sons.

He was a life-long Vols fan and was proud to watch his grandson graduate from the University of Tennessee in December. Bob loved his family, friends, history, technology, class reunions, cruises, good whiskey, grilled steak, and a friendly football wager. He was a proud southern Democrat and enjoyed “talking politics” with his children.

He and his wife, Charlotte, loved to travel together and joined his sister, Sara, for group trips she organized across the country. They especially loved the beach and their favorite destination was Destin, Florida. Back home Bob and Charlotte enjoyed their evenings sharing, laughing and debating with friends from Cinnamon Cove on the patio. Bob often said how lucky he was to have everything in life he wished for.

Bob was preceded in death by his dear wife, Charlotte Glisson Davis; his parents, Mary Ruth and Charles Davis, and his brother Thomas Erwin Davis.

He is survived by children Elaine Davis (Barri) Harper, Robert (Marsi) Davis, and Jennifer “J” Davis (Chris Precise) all of Chattanooga; step-sons Richard (Vicki) Tucker of Cumming, Georgia and Bryan (Carmen) Tucker of Montgomery, Alabama; grandchildren Spencer and Isabel Harper, Virginia Precise, and Allie, Sophie, Anna, and Jake Tucker; brother, Steve (TJ) Davis, sister, Sara (Mike) Stanton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date when friends and family can gather safely. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bledsoe County High School Band in memory of Bob Davis – Class of 1961 (877 Main Street, Pikeville, TN 37367).
