City Beer Board approves brewery downtown

The City of Pikeville Beer Board voted to approve a brewery in downtown Pikeville at a recessed meeting on Wednesday, February 10.

During the meeting Alderwoman Jane Humble asked to be removed from the Beer Board. Humble was only appointed to the Beer Board during Monday night’s city meeting to replace Alderwoman Senia Anderson, who resigned from the board earlier in the meeting. Mayor Philip Cagle said he accepted her resignation and would appoint a replacement before the next meeting.

Remaining Beer Board Members Ronald Byrd, Cagle, Paul Swafford, and Dale Wheeler unanimously voted to approve George Thomas Morgan of Bankwalker Brewing Company LLC’s request for an on and off-premises and manufacturer’s or distributors beer permit. Morgan and his business partners already have an on-premises beer permit for The Venue located directly next door on Spring Street to the location of the soon to be brewery.
