Ruth Clendenen Johnson

Ruth Clendenen Johnson, 92 of Pikeville, Tennessee died Monday, August 17, 2020 peacefully in her sleep at Bledsoe County Nursing Home with family by her side.

Ruth loved to cook and can food from her and her husband’s garden. She never ceased to amaze those who were invited to Sunday dinner with the bountiful amount of food served on her table. Ruth was a member of Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.

Ruth was born January 5, 1928 to Robert Verner and Hassie Mae Hitchcox Clendenen who preceded her in death along with her husband, John M. Johnson; daughter, Betty Lou Turner; brothers, Leonard and Ranzie Clendenen; sisters, Alta Holland and Alma Christian; grandchildren, Brad Simmons and Sonyia Olendorf; sons-in-law, Jimmie Shaver and Buddy Lowell Turner.

She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Shaver of Dayton, and Kaye (Sammy) Simmons of Dunlap; grandchildren, Stacy (Tonyia) Turner, Rhonda (Tommy) Harveston, Missy (William) Farnsworth, Tammie Shaver, and Jason (Elise) Simmons; great-grandchildren, Chandler Turner, Marietta (Marcus) Thompson, Jackson Putnam, Hunter (Valerie) Harveston, Meredith, Savannah, and Caitlyn Farnsworth, Carrie and John Thomas Simmons; great-great-grandchildren, Liam Harveston and Cameron Turner; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

A graveside service was held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, August 20, at Hitchcox Cemetery with Bro. T. A. Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Mt. Vernon Church of Christ in Ruth’s honor.
