Whoriskey retains TCA building, site’s future remains unknown

“One-thousand new jobs are coming to Pikeville, Gov. Bill Haslam announced on Monday afternoon, July 24.” That was the lead story this same week two years ago when Textile Corporation of America (TCA) and state and local representatives announced the company was moving into the old Dura building on Ferro Street.

Since then, admitted lies, several lawsuits, state investigations, and federal investigations have been the main product coming out of TCA in Pikeville—not textiles.

TCA’s future in Pikeville is over for now, as their building was officially reclaimed by Whoriskey, Inc. after no bids came in above the $1.4 million opening bid by the company. A former TCA official took out a $1.4 million loan with Whoriskey in 2017 in TCA’s name and then defaulted on the loan, with the Pikeville plant being used as collateral.
