Hollis Pope
Hollis Pope, 90, of Bledsoe County, Tennessee, died April 11, 2019 at NHC Healthcare.
Hollis was a lifelong farmer in SunnySide community, Bledsoe County. His farm, Maple Grove, received the Century Farm Award in 2006.
Hollis was active as a leader in Bledsoe County. He was president of Bledsoe County Farm Bureau for 22 years and received the Tennessee Farm Bureau federation distinguished service award in 2012. He was also a director in the Bledsoe County Farmers Cooperative for 32 years.
Hollis was appointed Foreman of the Grand Jury in 1983 and remained in this position for 17 years. In 1945, he served as a Page Boy in Washington, D.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Virgie Mae Pope; sister, Imogene (Joe) Deakins; brother, Charles Pope.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patsy Johnson Pope; son, Gary (Cathy) Pope of Dunlap; grandsons, Shaun (Crystal) Pope of Chattanooga and Andrew (Jacklyn) Pope of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Shelby, Liam; brother, James (JoAnn) Pope of Loudon; sister-in-law, Hallie Pope of Dunlap; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Pope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Dunlap First Baptist Church Building Fund.
