Randall Johnson

Randall A. Johnson, age 88, of Dunlap passed away Wednesday, November, 19, 2014 at Life Care Center of Sparta, TN. 

He was born on April 22, 1926 to the late Joseph A. and Flossie Foust Johnson in Mount Airy. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was a radio operator on the USS HYMAN-DD732 in the South Pacific. After his service in the Navy, he worked in and operated the family business of Pope & Johnson store and later worked with the U.S. Postal Service until retirement in 2008 at the age of 82. He loved his church, family and friends and was active in the community. He was a member of the Bethel Church of Christ. He served on the Sequatchie County Commission for 32 years, ending in 2006. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and American Legion. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves baseball and UT football fan. 

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Stewart Clack Johnson; two brothers, Quay and Dennis Johnson; and two sisters, Marie Freeman and Ramah Mosley.

     He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jane (Eddie) Nipper, Cookeville; son, Joe (Jan) Johnson, Chesterfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Eric Nipper of Cookeville, Rachel Nipper of Hixson, Emily Johnson of University City, Missouri and Tyler Johnson of Chesterfield.

     Funeral services were held Saturday, November 22 in the funeral home chapel with Minister T.A. Smith officiating. Burial was in Johnson-Lewis Cemetery in Bledsoe County. Military honors were provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethel Church of Christ, Sequatchie County Friends of the Library, or a charity of your choice.
