Mildred Nadine Cagle Holt
Mildred Nadine Cagle Holt, born November 10, 1915, in Pikeville, Bledsoe County, died in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the age of 98.
Mildred grew up in Bledsoe County and became an elementary school teacher there after attending Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas, and graduating from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. She also taught at Boyd-Buchanan School (1958-60) in Chattanooga, and at Madison Academy (1960-62) in Huntsville, Alabama.
In 1962, she moved with her beloved sister, Bernice and family, to Oklahoma City, where she worked as secretary to the Director of Development at Oklahoma Christian College. In 1965, she moved to the Henderson area, where she served as the Executive Secretary to the President at Freed-Hardeman College. She later moved to Montgomery, Alabama where she worked many years at Faulkner University before retiring. In 2005, she returned to Oklahoma City to be with her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mildred was a life-long and faithful member of the Church of Christ. Among others, she had been a member of congregations at Pikeville, Signal Mountain, Signal Hills, Henderson, and Jack’s Creek in Tennessee, at Alexander City, Huntsville, and Panama Street (Montgomery) in Alabama, the 4th & Boulevard congregation in Edmond, Oklahoma, and the Memorial Road congregation in Oklahoma City.
Mildred was the fourth child born to Grover Cleveland Cagle and Mary Virginia DeBord Cagle of Bledsoe County, who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by paternal grandparents Littleton Young Cagle, Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth Sutherland Cagle, maternal grandparents Martin DeBord and Mary Ann Colvard DeBord, all of Bledsoe County; brothers Firm Hill Cagle, Woodrow Wilson Cagle; sisters Mable Cagle of Pikeville and Bernice Cagle Johnson, of Montgomery, Alabama; nephew David Johnson, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Bradford Cleveland Holt and Jo Ann Pearce, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; granddaughter Sharon Holt Johnson and husband Jon of Oklahoma City; grandson John Alan Holt and wife Nan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great-grandsons Adam and Jace Holt of Tulsa; and by great-granddaughter Abigail Johnson of Oklahoma City. Other beloved survivors include nieces Janice Johnson Randolph, of Eclectic, Alabama, Loretta Cagle, of Pikeville, and Marilyn Johnson Terry, of Moulton, Alabama; nephews Billy, Paul, and Harold Cagle of Pikeville, and John and Richard Johnson of Jackson, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on July 18, at 11:00 a.m., at the Sequatchie Valley Church of Christ in Pikeville for her family and friends in Tennessee and Alabama. Interment is planned at the Pikeville Cemetery. An earlier memorial service was held on June 14 in Oklahoma City for her family and friends there.
