James “Buddy” Mitchell

James “Buddy” Wayman Mitchell, born November 4, 1932, in McMinnville, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014.

He was a 1951 graduate of Bledsoe County High School and an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Buddy retired from Hartford Insurance Company as an inspector and was a member of the American Legion Post 66. He was a Christian man of the Baptist faith and loved his family and the people of Bledsoe County which he held dearly. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all.

Preceding Buddy in death were his parents, Roy and Annie Mitchell; daughter Joy Dee Mitchell; brothers Charles and Clyde Mitchell; sisters Jean Gonda, Wilma Mitchell, Anne Mac Taylor, Juanita Holmes, Jo Worthington, Lela Troglin and Kay Evans.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Judy Addleman Mitchell; sons James (Jessica) Mitchell, Washington, D.C. and Jay (Valerie) Mitchell, Pikeville; grandchildren Nichole Mitchell, Tracy Manning, Christina (Ray) Corona, Joshua (Heather) Mitchell, Shelby Mitchell, Lucas Mitchell, Jonathan Smith, Monica (Eric) Mills, Anna (Jason) Reis, Russell, Daniel, David and Andrew Ferrara; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters Sarah Grasham, Hixson and Virginia Roye Morgan, Pikeville; and numerous nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.

Services were held Friday, May 24, in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Albert Roberts and Bro. Jim Whitaker officiating. Family memories were presented by Dustin Redd. Burial was in Pikeville Cemetery.
