Lenard R. Oakes

Lenard R. Oakes, 79, of Dunlap, died Sunday morning, February 16, 2014 at his home.

Lenard was a hard worker. He owned and operated Oakes Tree Service for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hunter and Bessie Ward Oakes; sisters, Bobbie Cantrell and Jewell Reece; brothers, Harold, D.C., Woodrow, R.A., Turner and Raymond.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Clara Ferguson Oakes; sons, Tony (Angela) Oakes, of Soddy Daisy and Ray (Linda) Oakes; daughters, Jeanette Davis and Jane Annette (Tim) Griswold, all of Dunlap; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim (Dorothy) Oakes, Crossville and Paul (Velma) Oakes; sister, Betty (Clarence) Dean, McMinnville; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

A celebration of Lenard’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday February 19, at 2 p.m. with Bro. Darell Nance officiating. The family will receive friends beginning on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Blankenship Cemetery.
