Iva L. Smith, 95, passed away, Thursday, January 23, 2014 in Kansas City, Missouri. Iva was born November 1, 1918 in Crossville to Monroe and Nancy Bickford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Lee Smith after 26 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Della May and five brothers, Lester, Fred, Casto, Herman and Clinton Bickford.
Survivors include son, Charles (Sammy) and his wife Betty Jo Smith of Washington, MO; daughter, Deanna and her husband Gerry Fass of Kansas City, KS; two sisters, Belle Smith and Ann Hall both of Pikeville; six grandchildren, Greg James, Julie O’Harrow, Tammy Smith, Randy Smith, Terry Fass and Lenny Fass; 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Iva’s outgoing, social personality gave her enjoyment in her several years of waitress work. She retired from Sealright Co. after 26 years of being a machine operator. She was an avid gardener and loved to travel. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlight of her life. Her Christian life was influential thru hospitality and serving others. Her home was open to everyone whether the need was food or lodging.
Services will be held January 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
