Peter Tulner

Peter Tulner, 90, died peacefully Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in Cumberland County.

He was born October 20, 1923 in St. Anna Parochie Friesland, the Netherlands to the late Pieter and Sjoukje (deVries) Tulner.  In 1948 he and his wife Margaret immigrated to the province of Quebec in Canada where he was occupied as a farmer, later moving to Ontario where they both became Canadian citizens.

In 1980, he moved from Brampton, Ontario, Canada to Pikeville, and assisted in the startup of Ferro Manufacturing, later Johnson Controls where he worked as an engineer. He retired to his Upper East Valley Road farm in 1988 to raise cattle and make fine furniture and other keepsakes. During his residence in the valley, he was one of many volunteers who helped establish the Nine Mile Volunteer Fire Department.

The decision to move to Cumberland County in 1996 was tinged with sadness because Bledsoe County and the valley had become the home place of his heart.

He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years Margaret (Swart) of Crossville; daughter Trudy Campbell of Ontario, Canada; son Barry Peter Tulner of Ontario, Canada; brother Waling (Afke) Tulner of Friesland, Holland; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, plus two generations of nieces and nephews.

In deference to Pete’s wishes that no “fuss” be made a private family memorial is planned at a future date.

Please share your thoughts and condolences with the family at www.pikevillefuneralhome.com.

Arrangements were entrusted to Pikeville Funeral Home in Pikeville.
