Richard T. Swafford

Richard T. Swafford, 70, of Portland, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2013 at his home. He was born in Pikeville to Tom Sam and Kathryn Eugenia Day Swafford. He lived most of his adult life in Cleveland, Gallatin and Portland. 

Richard was a diehard Republican and was passionate in politics. In his spare time he loved to bowl, watch Tennessee football, watch and listen to the news and play with his dog, Freckles. He was a farmer and raised cattle for 15 years and then raised border collies for another 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents; and a sister, Linda Swafford. 

Richard was extremely loving and proud father and grandfather. He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Swafford Boyd and Cindy Swafford Pendergrass; grandchildren, Ashley Katherine Boyd, Jace Alexander Boyd, Logan Randall Pendergrass and Maddox Samuel Pendergrass, all of Cleveland; sister, Diana Swafford Ledbetter of Crossville; nieces, Gina Adams of Smyrna, Debbie Green and nephew, Bobby Smith, both of Crossville; great-nephews, John and Thomas Lansford, Dustin and Kyle Adams, and Caleb Smith.

A Celebration of his life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at noon.

Burial will be in the T.Y. Swafford Cemetery with full military honors.
