Jewell Oakes Reece

Jewell Oakes Reece, 84, of Pikeville died at an area nursing home on Saturday, July 6, 2013. She was a member of the Sequatchie Valley Church of Christ.

Jewell owned and operated the Fabric House on Main Street in Pikeville for 25 years. She was very active in the community serving on the Bledsoe County Nursing Home Board, in the local Chamber of Commerce, Avalon Center sponsor, helped with the Senior Citizen Center, and taught quilting classes. Jewell loved to travel, tend a garden, pick wildflowers, but most of all she enjoyed helping others.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest; son, Roger Reece; parents, Hunter and Bessie Oakes; brothers, D.C., Woodrow, R.A., Harold, Turner, and Raymond Oakes; sister, Bobbie Cantrell; brothers-in-law, Rathmael, Roy, Harold, Hershall, and David Reece; sisters-in-law, Myrtle and Evelyn Debord and Nellie Britt.

Jewell is survived and will be missed by her family: son, Ronnie (Regina) Reece; daughter-in-law, Brenda Reece; brothers, Jim (Dorothy) Oakes, Lenard (Clara) Oakes, and Paul (Velma) Oakes; sister, Bettye (Clarence) Dean; grandchildren, Rodonna Lehan (Frank) Krauland, Roger Brady (Christy) Reece, James Eric (Megan) Reece, Laura Reece (Chris) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Taylor Lane Reece, Galen Alexander Reece, James Brady Reece, and Mia Sherree Reece; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Jewell’s life was held in the funeral home chapel on July 9 with Min. Paul Cagle officiating. Burial will be in the Griffith Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asked if any memorial contributions in Jewell’s honor be made to the Griffith Cemetery Fund care of First National Bank.
