Thelma Simmons, 86, of Pikeville passed away June 12, 2013 at an area nursing home. She was a founding member of the Mt. Crest Church of God of Prophecy. She worked at the local hosiery mill for many years. Thelma loved to tend a garden, sew, and cook for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Jake Simmons; son, Ronald Simmons; parents, Napolean and Rachel Simmons; brother, Chester Simmons; sisters, Lena Agee, Angie Blankenship, Martha Lou DeBord, Ida Milan and her twin sister, Velma Holland; son-in-law, Greg Jones; step-grandson, Andy Wooden; daughter-in-law, Barbara McNabb; and brothers-in-law, Joe Holland, Mitchell Agee, Albert Debord, Giles Blankenship, and Amos Pendergrass.
She is survived and will be missed by her son, Norman (Nancy) Simmons; daughters, Kathi Jones and Patsy (Stanley Evans) Simmons; brother, N.C. Simmons; sisters, Clara Mooneyham, and Juanita Reed; grandchildren, Rodney Simmons, Jason (Lisa) Simmons, Keith (Julie) Simmons, Adam Jones, and Rachel (Brandon) Burchett; great-grandchildren, Taylor Grass, Gavin Simmons, Evey Burchett, and Gabby Simmons; step-grandson, Brian Wooden; special friend, Tom Webb; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
A celebration of Thelma’s life was held in the funeral chapel on June 14 with Rev. Kenneth Norris officiating. Burial was in the Blackburn Cemetery.
