James “Dewey” Asberry

James “Dewey” Asberry, Sr. of Crossville passed into eternal life on Sunday, March 3, 2013 from Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville.

Dewey was born in Pikeville on March 23, 1950, the son of the late Eula B. (Guffey) Asberry and Samuel Estel Asberry.

His family returned to Kentucky and then moved back to Bledsoe County in 1960. He worked many years at Sequatchie Valley Slaughter House in Pikeville and also did farm work. Dewey gained a host of friends while living here. He gave his life to the Lord and prayed every day for the last few years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Ira Lee Asberry; and sisters Geneva Stewart and Katherine Asberry.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his children James Waylon Henning, James Dewey Asberry, Jr., Tracy Asberry, Tyna Music, and James Wendell Asberry; brothers Billy Joe Asberry and Julie, Steven Eugene Asberry and Shirley Fay; sisters Sirley Farley and family, Betsy Bishop, Sarah Bishop and family, Carolyn Bishop; aunts Helen Moorehead and Ida Guffey; his fiance Sherry Henning; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He will be sadly missed by all, but his memory will live on forever.
