Waymon Leon Cox

Waymon Leon Cox, 65, of Pikeville died on Saturday, January 19, 2013.

He was of the Church of Christ faith. Waymon enjoyed the outdoors. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, and coaching softball. He was the head coach for the Lady Bankers softball team for ten years. Waymon was a plumber by trade. He was a member of the local Steamfitters Union #43, he was a member of the NRA, and a member of the Pikeville Bass Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buell and Anna Pearson Cox; brothers, Junior and Ben Childers; sister, Johnnie Belinda Boyd; nephew, Matthew Cox; and a special aunt, Irene Johnson.

He is survived and will be missed by his wife of 48 years, Annetta “Cookie” Cox; son, Waymon Lee Cox; daughter, DeAnna Cox Wooden; brother, Winfred Leo Cox; sisters, Ellen Clewis, Edna Carlisle, Phyllis Davis, Treva Scarborough, and Reva Troglin; grandchildren, Amanda (Brian) Johnson, Sandra (Brandon) Dye, Breanna Cox, Raquel Hitchcox, Chasity , Christin and Hunter Cox; two great-grandchildren, Chloe Dunn and Drake Dye; best friend, Keith Burdette, and his faithful companion, Gus.

A celebration of Waymon’s life was held on January 20 with Pastor Darrell Smith and Pastor Mark Justice officiating. Burial will be in the Wheeler Hill Cemetery.
