Helen Brown

Helen H. Brown, 79, of Spring City died Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Erlanger Medical Center.

Born in Pikeville, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Camolyra Swafford Brown Sr. She was a graduate of Bledsoe County High School and received a Master’s Degree from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.

Brown came to Spring City in 1960. She was the band director for the elementary and high school for almost 30 years. After her retirement in 1987, she took up crafting. She participated in local craft shows for many years until her mother’s illness took up most of her time.

A lifetime lover of antiques, she enjoyed finding beautiful pieces and turning them into treasures. Right before her death, she celebrated buying her first new car. Her unique personality and sense of humor will be missed by her family, her many former students and friends. She was a member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church in Spring City.

She was preceded in death by her brother Ben Brown.

Survivors include her brothers Wendell (Charlotte) Brown of Dayton and Frank (Marilyn) Brown Jr. of Knoxville; sister-in-law Tina (David) Goodland of Pikeville; nephews Robert, Mark, Schawn, Stephen and William Brown; and nieces Cynthia Hall and Heather Kline; and several great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, November 25, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wolf Creek Baptist Church in Spring City with Rev. Paul Forgey officiating. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wolf Creek Baptist Church Children’s Choir, 5225 Wolf Creek Road, Spring City, TN  37381.
