Henrietta Walker Breland

Henrietta Walker Breland, 70, a resident of the Hendon community for 39 years, died at her home Thursday, September 27, 2012. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was a dearly devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her life. She will be fondly remembered for her selflessness and gentle spirit, as well as her enthusiasm. She seldom met a stranger and welcomed everyone she met with open arms. She loved animals, especially her “Miss Kitty” and gave many stray animals a home over the years.

We are left to cherish the memories of her quick wit, her warm hugs and giving heart. She was surrounded by love, not only of her family, but of the Hendon and Flat Top communities, as well as many special friends in the Sequatchie Valley. One of the dearest things to her heart was the annual “Hee Haw” show in Dunlap for the Cancer Support Network, as she looked forward to it every year. She will be dearly missed by everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Arthur and Gertrude Louise Worsham Walker; and sisters, Loraine Walker and Donise Potts.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, John Avery Breland; children, John Henry (Ellen) Breland, Thomas (Karen) Breland, Connie (Don) Shull, and Jimbo (Stacy) Breland; special niece, Sandy (JR) Gadd; grandchildren, Beth (Jon) Stinson, Nichole (Kevin “Sip”) Henry, Jennifer (Seth) Taitague, Ashley Breland, Casey (Jami) Shull, Heather Breland, Matthew Shull, and Faith Breland; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Taitague, Sophie Clare Stinson, Janathan Elijah Shull; brother-in-law, Paul Harvey (Linda) Gardner; sisters-in-law, Sue Aplin and Linda Ward; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held September 30 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Lanny Tate officiating. Burial was in Brayton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. If you insist on sending flowers, “only a rose will do.”

Arrangements were made by Ewton Funeral Home in Dunlap.
