Peggy Brakin Roberson, 62, of Pikeville, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 in a local health care facility.
She was of Baptist faith. She loved hiking and other activities in the Smokey Mountains which were the home of both her ancestral families.
She often shared information on early life in the Smokies as learned from her families with visitors from all parts of the world while demonstrating old life skills at area festivals. She has participated at Christmas Past at the National Park Headquarters at Sugarlands Visitors’ Center.
For several years, she demonstrated twice annually at the Townsend Spring and Fall Festival. Most usually she would be teaching how to use the weaving loom and old wash day skills using the rub board. She participated at the local Log Cabin Days as the “washwoman,” giving children the opportunity to wash socks on a rub board.
She was proceeded in death by her father Raymond Brackin and brother, Steve Brakin of Cleveland.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Pauline Owenby Brackin of Cleveland, two sons and their families, Todd and Regina Roberson and daughters Emma and Sarah, Andy and Heather Roberson, and sons Riley and Reagan, all of Pikeville; and brother Raymond Brackin, Jr. of Cleveland.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 6 in the funeral home chapel with Kinley Knight officiating. Internment followed in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Cleveland.
