Vera Mae Fowler

    Vera Mae Fowler, 98, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010. She was known lovingly to her family as Granny or aunt Mae and to friends as Miss Vera. At the time of her death, she was the oldest active member of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church. Fowler was an accomplished seamstress, and over the past 50 years, designed and crocheted hundreds of afghans for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews, and for every newborn in the Brainerd Hills congregation.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Willie Fowler; parents, seven sisters and four brothers.

    Survivors include her daughter, Gloria (Tommy) Lee; son, T.A. (Dale) Fowler; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

    A grave-side service was held December 30 at Manchester City Cemetery in Manchester, Georgia with a Memorial service to be held at a later date.
