Elbert Alder

    Elbert Lee Alder, beloved husband and father, passed away at his home in Jasper on September 23, 2010 with his family by his side.

    He was 83, born January 23, 1927 to the late Jasper and Grace Alder. He was a retired carpenter and painter. He also worked with TVA on several occasions.

    He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II.

    He was preceded in death by his parents Jasper and Grace Alder Kilgore; brother, Paul and Merrel Alder; sisters, Louise Downey and Nellie Wallace; and granchildren, Michael Paul Davis and Andrew Lynn Alder.

    He is survived and will be missed by his wife of almost 59 years (lacking one day), Annie Mae (Johnson) Alder; children Diane (Ricky) Davis of Pikeville, Ricky (Elaine) Alder of Ringgold, Georgia, Danny (Susie) Alder, Debbie (William) Waldon, Jerry Alder, all of Jasper, Kenneth (Charity) Alder of New Hope; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Jr. Alder of South Pittsburg, Sam (Barbara) Alder of Rossviller, Georgia, Joe Alder and Roger (Diane) Alder, both of Jasper; sisters, Betty (Ralph) Tambro of Illinois; Brabara (Gary) Nunley, Rachael (Johnny) Jones of Sequatchie, Margaret (Tex) Casteel of Jasper; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

    Services were held September 27 in the Tate Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Broom officiating. Burial was in Sequatchie Memorial Gardens with military honors, followed by a white dove release as Benny Berry sang Uncloudy Day.
