Landon Colvard, Sr.

    Landon Colvard, Sr., 89, of Pikeville passed away at an area hospital on September 22, 2010.

    He was a member of the Pikeville Church of God. He was also a veteran of the United States Army and served during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion.

    Colvard accomplished many things during his life and served in many capacities in the local government. He was a Tennessee State Senator from 1953-1955, and served as Bledsoe County’s Clerk and Master and Register of Voters.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Addie Colvard; four brothers, Leo Colvard, Norman Colvard, Phillip Colvard, Sr., and William Colvard, Jr.; five sisters, Edith Colvard Duckett, Vivian Colvard Joyner, Amy Colvard, Sybil Colvard Seals, and Gladys Colvard Humble; one granddaughter, Amanda Hope Colvard Richards.

    He is survived and will be missed by his wife of 67 years, Hortense Graham Colvard; three sons, Landon “Laney” (Charlotte) Colvard, Jr., Thad Ronald “Ronny” (Carol) Colvard, Daniel G. “Dan” (Sue) Colvard; and daughter, Rebecca Ann (Greg) Forgey; grandchildren, Lana Colvard, Thad (Tammy) Colvard, Amy Colvard, Angie (Rusty) Farley, Michael (Aimee) Colvard, Matthew Daniel Colvard, Melanie (Jeremiah) Johnson, Adam Forgey, and Faith Forgey; fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

    A celebration of his life was held in the funeral home chapel on September 25 with Leroy Forgey and Ronny Colvard presiding. Burial, with full military honors, was held at the Pikeville Cemetery following the service.

    In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Landon’s honor to the Pikeville Church of God Building Fund, 544 Sequatchie Road, Pikeville, TN 37367.
